The SADC Annual Report for the year beginning July 1995-June 1996 covers the establishment of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security within the SADC Secretariat, launched on the 28th June 1996 in Gaborone, Botswana.
The Organ is the foremost institution of SADC addressing issues of political stability, conflict prevention, democracy and peacekeeping.The Report gives an overview of the political situation in the region, describing the political situation of each Member State within the region. It also touches on regional drought and food security issues as well as economic growth and development – paying specific attention to inflation, trade, public finance and employment.
The annual report provides a Programme of Action for SADC starting July 1996—covering different sectors such as energy, food security, environment, wildlife and transport communications and forestry amongst others.
