SADC Executive Secretary Briefs the Chair of the Organ on the Political Situation in the Region

SADC Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax on Monday briefed H.E. Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of the Republic of Namibia and Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation on the political situation in the region.

Dr. Tax underscored the significant efforts and milestones achieved during the tenure of Namibia as Chair of the SADC Organ. Among these achievements, she singled out the successful conclusion of the mediation mission in the Republic of Madagascar, as well as the restoration of Madagascar to constitutional normalcy, and the gradual stabilization of the political situation in the eastern DRC. 

They furthermore undertook to monitor and remain seized with the political situation in the Kingdom of Lesotho.

Namibia’s tenure as Chair of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation comes to end at the SADC Summit of Heads of State and Government in August 2014.
