Statement by the SADC Chairperson, His Excellency Dr. Hage G. Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia 19 December, 2018

The Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) is currently supporting the Republic of Madagascar in the process of the second round of the Presidential Election held on 19 December 2018.

SADC commends the people of the Republic of Madagascar for their peaceful and exemplary conduct during the election campaign period and election day.  

SADC also commends the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) for managing the logistics for the election within the short period of time between the first round of the election held in November 2018, and the second round of the election.

SADC urges the two Presidential Election candidates and their supporters to remain calm and patient whilst the CENI and the High Constitutional Court respectively, are in the process of finalising the release of the provisional and final results of the election.
