SADC Executive Secretary Met with the High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Botswana

The High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Botswana, H.E. Umar Zainab Salisu, met with SADC Executive Secretary Her Excellency Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax on 3rd June 2019, at SADC Secretariat, to discuss areas of cooperation between the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Economic Commission of West African States (ECOWAS)

The Nigeria High Commissioner thanked the Executive Secretary for accepting to meet him and looked forward to the continued cooperation in the areas of mutual interest between SADC and ECOWAS.

SADC Executive Secretary expressed gratitude to ECOWAS through H.E. Umar Zainab Salisu for the continued cooperation between the two parties, and thanked ECOWAS for hosting SADC Secretariat Human Resources team that is currently at ECOWAS for the benchmarking exercise. Dr. Tax expressed SADC’s readiness to collaborate with ECOWAS, highlighting that the collaboration would strengthen the Regional Economic Communities and guarantee success in regional programmes of mutual interest. The two parties identified areas of cooperation under peace and security and agreed to work on cooperation modalities.

The Executive Secretary was accompanied in the meeting by Mr. Jorge Cardoso, Director of the Organ on Politics, Defense and Security Affairs, and Dr. Joseph Pitso SADC Senior Officer, Gender.
