The Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), in collaboration with the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (OCHA, is organizing a regional pre-season disaster risk preparedness and planning workshop in Johannesburg, South Africa, in the period 28th of October to 1st of November 2013.
The aim of the SADC preparedness workshop is for national and regional disaster risk reduction managers and stakeholders to deliberate on the implications of the 2013/14 seasonal rainfall forecast (SARCOF-17) report, and to put in place the necessary contingency and preparedness measures needed to meet any possible emergencies, during the coming rainy season. The workshop will additionally discuss issues of DRR regional coordination and partnerships in the SADC region.
Invited participants include the Heads of the Disaster Risk Management Units or their senior level representatives, participants from other relevant Ministries, non-governmental organizations, UN Agencies, donors, humanitarian actors and other national and regional stakeholders with relevant expertise in DRR.
