Call for Applications to Join the SADC Emergency Response Team

The Disaster Risk Reduction Unit of the SADC Secretariat with support from the World Bank through the Strengthening Disaster Risk Reduction, Coordination, Planning and Policy Advisory Capacity Project is calling for applications to join the SADC Emergency Response Team (ERT). This is in line with the decision of the August 2019 Council of Ministers, which called for the expeditious operationalization of the SADC Disaster Preparedness and Response Mechanism.

The Emergency Response Team will be a team of experts from different disciplines as per the qualifications and experience indicated in Annex 1 attached, to provide lifesaving support to communities in SADC Member States affected by disasters.

The SADC Emergency Response Team will serve on a voluntary basis and will be deployed on as required basis during disaster occurrences. Members of the ERT will undergo training in line with the United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination (UNDAC) training requirements for Emergency Response Teams.

SADC ERT members will be called upon for deployment as the first line of response during emergencies in the region and their travel costs and subsistence allowances during deployment will be the responsibility of SADC Secretariat.

The SADC Secretariat invites suitably qualified candidates to express their interest by completing the application form attached as Annex 2. The completed form should be dully endorsed as outlined on the form. Applicants will be vetted to ascertain suitability for the function and informed accordingly.

The deadline for submission of applications is 10th September 2020. Only applications endorsed by appropriate structures as per Annex 2 will be considered.
