SADC Executive Secretary H.E. Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax has conveyed her congratulations to President Elect Hery Rajaonarimampianina on his election as the First President of the Fourth Republic of Madagascar. Dr. Tax conveyed her best wishes to Mr. Rajaonarimampianina following the announcement of the final election results by the Special Electoral Court of Madagascar on 17th January 2014.
The Executive Secretary also wishes to commend the loosing candidates for demonstrating statesmanship in accepting the outcome of the elections and respecting the rule of law. She underscores the need for, "All political parties in Madagascar to be engaged and urged to demonstrate their commitment to ending the political instability in the country by putting the supreme interests of the nation and the people of Madagascar before personal and party-political interests".
While recognising the need to consolidate the political achievements made in the last few years, culminating in the election of Mr. Rajaonarimampianina to the Presidency, she called upon the people of Madagascar, from all walks of life, to remain calm and exercise political tolerance for the good of the nation.
Dr. Tax also congratulates the people of Madagascar for their peaceful conduct and maturity during the elections process and urges them to exhibit the same spirit of tolerance as the country embarks on a political and socio-economic recovery phase.
