A delegation from the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and Botswana Family Welfare Association (BOFWA) paid a courtesy visit to the SADC Executive Secretary, Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax, at SADC House on Thursday, March 31, 2016.
Issues discussed revolved around gender and health within the broader context of human and social development, and how IPPF and BOFWA can cooperate with SADC and complement SADC's work around these areas.
The SADC Executive Secretary, Dr Tax, thanked the delegation for their interest in partnering with SADC Secretariat. She emphasised that according to the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2015 – 2026, Gender and human development are critical elements falling under special programmes of regional dimensions. She further outlined that, in this regard, SADC has also mainstreamed the African Union Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) into programming hence there is scope for cooperation.
The delegation included Prof. Naomi Seboni (President, IPPF Governing Council), Adv. Kweku Osae Brenu (Chairperson, IPPF Africa Region), Mr. Lucien Kouassi Kouakou (Regional Director, IPPF Africa Region), Prof. Keitseope Nthomang (President, BOFWA), Ms. Una Ngwenya (Chief Executive Officer, BOFWA), Mr Keitumetse Mariri (Communication Officer, BOFWA) and Mr Arnold Letsholo (Sunday Standard).
