GIZ New Director Introduced to SADC Executive Secretary

The Germany Ambassador to Botswana, His Excellency Ralf Breth paid a courtesy call on SADC Executive Secretary, Her Excellency Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax on 3rd June 2019 to introduce the new GIZ Country Director to Botswana Mr. Daniel Bagwitz.

The German Ambassador thanked the SADC Executive Secretary for affording him the opportunity to introduce the new GIZ Country Director. Mr. Daniel Bagwitz has worked for GIZ since 2002 in various, and reported for duties in Botswana in March 2019, after working for 9 years in Namibia specifically in promoting Industrialisation and value chains. He expressed his gratitude to Dr. Tax for welcoming him and renewed GIZ commitment to closely collaborate with SADC Secretariat.

SADC Executive Secretary welcomed Mr. Bagwitz thanked GIZ for the continuous support rendered to SADC for various programs, and assured the new Country Director of SADC’s full cooperation and support. She commended GIZ for the cordial relations that have continued to exist between SADC and GIZ, and looked forward to the continued warm relations during the new Country Director’s  tenure.

During the meeting, the two parties also discussed issues of bilateral cooperation  including the status of preparations for the country to country negotiations scheduled for November 2019, and agreed to continue working together for the mutual benefit of both parties.

Also in attendance during the meeting were the SADC Deputy Executive Secretary Regional, Ambassador Joseph Nourrice, and the Director of Policy, Planning and Resource Mobilisation, Mr. Mubita Luwabelwa.

The German Ambassador was also accompanied by the Federal Republic of Germany Embassy Counsellor Development Cooperation, Mr. Fabian Kyrieleis.
