2013 SADC Gender Monitor Presented at SADC Summit in Lilongwe

Magdeline Mathiba-Madibela, head of the SADC Gender Unit, and Dr. Mary Shawa, Principal Secretary to the Malawian Ministry of Gender, Children and Community Development; presented the 2013 SADC Gender Monitor. The SADC document is tracking progress on implementation of the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development, which was adopted and signed at the 2008 SADC Summit.

Dr. Shawa lined out that ´the SADC Gender Monitor is for the Malawian Government a fundamental Document for the implementation of Gender Policies in Malawi´, by referring in particular to the chapter on Malawi.

The document was presented to the public on Friday, 16th of August 2013, at a press conference in Bingu International Conference Centre in Lilongwe (Malawi), where the 33rd Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government took place.
