Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the ten countries constituting the Southern Africa geographical region in the AU configuration, met in Gaborone, Botswana, on 23 March 2016, and endorsed Honourable Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi, from Republic of Botswana as the Southern African Region Candidate for the position of the Chairperson of the AU Commission. The AU Southern African Region comprise of Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
