The Mozambican Ambassador to Moscow, Russia, His Excellency Mario Ngwenya, paid a courtesy call on the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Executive Secretary, Her Excellency Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax, on 5th February 2018, at the SADC Headquarters in Gaborone Botswana. The courtesy call provided an opportunity to follow up to the SADC Investment Forum that was held in Moscow in September 2018, and mainly focused on information around the energy sector in particular, the discovery of gas in the region that is expected to ease the energy deficiency that most countries are facing, and contribute to the SADC industrialisation agenda.

Dr Tax thanked the Ambassador on behalf of the SADC Ambassadors in Moscow. She highlighted that the Secretariat was already working with Russian Government through the Russian Embassy in Botswana to identify areas where the two parties can continue to work together within the frameworks of the two Memoranda of Understanding on Military and Technical Cooperation and the Basic Principles of Cooperation signed last year.

The SADC Executive Secretary highlighted that the Secretariat appreciates the support that the Committee of Ambassadors in Russia continue to provide to SADC and look forward to the continued collaboration and cooperation for the benefit of SADC citizens. She highlighted that the Secretariat is ready to provide all the information that the Committee of Ambassadors might require to facilitate Russian Investment within the SADC region.
