Kinshasa, DR Congo, 22nd December, 2018: International Electoral Observation Mission for the 2018 presidential, legislative and provincial elections of the Democratic Republic of Congo have called for peace following the postponement of elections from 23rd to 30th December, 2018
The call was made in a Joint Statement issued by five International Electoral Observation Missions in the DRC namely; the SADC Electoral Observation Mission (SEOM), African Union Electoral Observation Mission, Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) Electoral Observation Mission, Joint Electoral Observation Mission of the ICGLR Parliament Forum and International Conference on the Great Lakes Region, and the Electoral Commissions Forum of SADC Countries (ECF-SADC).
The Heads of the International Electoral Observation Missions acknowledged the commitment by the National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI to manage and facilitate the holding of successful elections in a peaceful and conducive environment and urged CENI to continue consultations with all stakeholders to ensure that the electoral process reaches a logical conclusion and that the integrity of the process is maintained.
The Heads of Mission also reaffirmed their commitment to stand in solidarity with the Congolese people throughout the electoral process. Read full joint statement in English and French
