International Organisation for Migration Regional Director for Southern Africa presents Letters of Credence

The International Organisation for Migration (IOM), Regional Director for Southern Africa, Mr. Charles Allan Kwenin presented his letters of credence to the SADC Executive Secretary, Her Excellency, Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax at the SADC Secretariat on 5th March 2018.

Partnership between SADC and IOM is based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed in 2004 and revised in 2016, providing a framework and modalities for cooperation between the two institutions pertaining to migration. Joint activities of cooperation include the Migration Dialogue for Southern Africa (MIDSA); trafficking in persons; and labour migration.

Mr Kwenin thanked Dr. Tax for making time to meet him and share progress in the implementation of the joint activities outlined in the MoU. On her part, Dr. Tax welcomed Mr. Kwenin and congratulated him for being accredited to SADC. The two pledged continued collaboration in the operationalization of the MoU, in particular, strengthening cooperation and dialogue on national and regional migration policies and legislative development in the context of overall migration management including working with national, regional and international stakeholders.
