MCO reviews political and security situation in SADC

The Meeting of the Ministerial Committee of the Organ (MCO) Troika was held in Windhoek, Namibia, on 10 April 2014. The meeting reviewed the political and security in the region, in particular in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Republic of Madagascar.

The meeting noted that the political and security situation in DRC is relatively calm and stable, especially in the eastern part of the country. However, there are still internal and foreign negative forces which need to be neutralized.

On Madagascar, the meeting noted that the SADC Roadmap aimed at resolving the political crisis and return Madagascar to constitutional normalcy was being implemented.

The meeting also noted progress regarding preparations for the continental Peace Support Operation (PSO) exercise AMANI Africa II which will be hosted by the SADC region in the Kingdom of Lesotho by end of 2014.
