SADC Executive Secretary to lead SADC Delegation to the SADC Investment Forum and Signing of the MoU on the Basic Principles of Relations and Cooperation

22nd October, 2018, Gaborone, Botswana:  The Executive Secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Her Excellency Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax will on 23-24 October, 2018 lead the SADC Delegation to Moscow, Russia to attend the SADC Investment Forum and sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Russian Federation.

On 23rd October, 2018, H.E. Dr Tax will deliver a Key Note address at the SADC Investment Forum whose main objective is to create a platform for SADC to share with Russian Partners information on investment opportunities and investment climate in the SADC region. During the Investment Forum, the SADC Secretariat will participate in the panel discussions, focusing on Energy and Infrastructure Development; Finance and Logistics; Regional Industrial Value Chains, Mining and Health.

On the margins of the Investment Forum, H.E. Dr Tax and H.E. Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, will sign the MoU on the Basic Principles of Relations and Cooperation between SADC and the Russian Federation. The MoU provides a framework for cooperation between SADC and Russian Federation for the next five years.

During the visit, the Executive Secretary will hold discussions with the Federal Agency for Military-Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation on the implementation of the MoU signed on 27 July, 2018, between SADC and Russian Government in the areas of military-technical cooperation. The Executive Secretary will take the opportunity to meet senior officials from the Moscow Chamber of Commerce to discuss a program run by the Moscow Chamber on Women in Business

The Executive Secretary will also meet with SADC Ambassadors in Moscow, Russia, led by His Excellency, Mr Ndali-Ché Kamati, the Namibian Ambassador to the Russian Federation and Chairperson of the SADC Ambassadors to Moscow, Russia. Discussions with the Ambassadors will focus on strengthening cooperation between SADC and the Russian Federation.
