The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Executive Secretary, H.E. Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax received letters of credence from the new High Commissioner of the Republic of Namibia to the Republic of Botswana, H.E Ambassador Mr. Asser Kapere on 29th January 2018 in Gaborone, Botswana at the SADC Secretariat Head office.
Dr. Tax congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and ensured him full support in his role. She further welcomed the Ambassador to the SADC family, stating that the region was stable and peaceful, with strong solidarity among its Member States. She shared with Ambassador Kapere progress and achievements recorded in the consolidation of democracy and maintenance of peace and political stability in the region, and in accelerating socio-economic development.
Ambassador Kapere thanked Dr. Tax for the warm welcome and appreciated accomplishments by the SADC family, and pledged his cooperation to SADC regional integration and development agenda. He said he was committed to working with the Secretariat in fostering and maintaining a more inclusive cordial relationship which already exists between Namibia and SADC.
Ambassador Kapere assumes the Chairpersonship of the SADC Committee of Ambassadors and High Commissioner, by virtue of the Republic of Namibia becoming the Chairperson of SADC in August 2018, during the 38th SADC Summit of Heads of States and Government. The Committee is one of the mechanisms established to facilitate information dissemination, interaction and consultation between Member States and the Secretariat.
