The Finance Committee of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is meeting today, 23 March 2018, at the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), in Pretoria, South Africa, as part of the series of events preceding the Council of Ministers Meeting which is scheduled to take place from the 26 – 27 March 2018, at the same venue.
The meeting will receive and review the reports from the Finance Sub-Committee which met on 20th March 2018, and prepare recommendations to be presented to the SADC Council of Ministers for considerations.
The reports include the SADC Secretariat’s performance and expenditure report for April to December 2017; the Secretariat’s proposed budget for the year 2018/19; progress on the implementation of the SADC priority areas of the Revised Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan 2015-2020 (RISDP) and the Strategic Indicative Plan for the Organ (SIPO) namely: Industrial Development and Market Integration; Infrastructure Support for Regional Integration; Peace and Security; Special Programmes of Regional Dimension; Cross-Cutting Issues as well as Corporate Services and Institutional Reforms.
The Council of Ministers oversee the functioning and development of the SADC and ensures that policies are properly implemented, and meets twice in a year.
