SADC to Launch deployment into the Kingdom of Lesotho on November 28

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Contingent Force will start deployment into the Kingdom of Lesotho between the 20th to 27th November 2017 for an initial period of six months. The deployment will be officially launched on the 28th of November 2017, at Press Conference in Maseru, Lesotho.

The Chairperson of the Oversight Committee and Head of Mission held a Press conference at Avani Lesotho Hotel, Maseru on 19th November to brief the Media on the objective of the mission. “The objective of this mission is to facilitate the establishment of a secure, stable and peaceful environment conducive for the implementation of SADC decisions, including the holding of multi-stakeholder dialogue, the Constitutional, Public Service, Parliamentary, Judicial and  Security Sector reforms, aimed at stabilizing the political and security situation of the Kingdom of Lesotho.” He said.

The first contingent is expected to land in Maseru on Monday 20th November. Prior to that, the Chair of the Planning Committee, Lt General Americo Valente arrived on 18th November to inspect the status of preparedness of the local logistics put in place to welcome the Mission. He visited the facilities allocated to the 4 components as well as the Headquarters of the mission.
