SADC Launches a US$323 Million Appeal for Millions Affected by the Devastating Impacts of Tropical Cyclone IDAI

The Southern African Development Community has launched an Appeal amounting to US $323 million to support the humanitarian needs and disaster response recovery of millions of people affected by devastating impacts of Tropical Cyclone IDAI in three of its Member States; Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

The SADC Regional Humanitarian Appeal was announced today the 11th of April 2019 in Windhoek, Namibia, by the SADC Chairperson, His Excellency Dr Hage G. Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia at a ceremony attended by Ambassadors and High Commissioners from SADC Member States based in Namibia, representatives of United Nations and Humanitarian Agencies, Members of the diplomatic corps and regional and International Cooperating Partners. The Cyclone IDAI made its landfall in March 2019, and affected three of the SADC Member States, namely Republics of Malawi, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
