Statement on the Presidential and Regional Elections in the Union of the Comoros by the Chairperson of SADC, His Excellency Dr. Hage G. Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) wishes the people of the Union of the Comoros successful and peaceful Presidential and Regional Elections, scheduled for 24 March 2019.

In solidarity with the people of the Union of the Comoros, SADC encourages all political parties, candidates, and their supporters to exercise their civic right by participating the elections and elect leaders of their choice, and do so in peaceful manner, and in line with the Constitution of the Comoros.

SADC also calls upon all stakeholders to respect the results of the electoral process, and in case of any electoral grievances, deal with them in accordance with the Constitution of the Comoros and legislation.

SADC expresses its continued commitment and support to the Union of the Comoros in the consolidation of democracy in line with the Revised SADC Principles and Guidelines Governing Democratic Elections (2015).
