The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Secretariat has learnt, with great shock, of the sudden and untimely death of Major General Trust Mugoba, who was the Chief of Staff of the African Standby Force (ASF) at the African Union Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The SADC family has indeed lost an illustrious son who dedicated his efforts towards bringing peace and security in the SADC region, and on the African continent as a whole, as evidenced by his leadership of the AMANI AFRICA II Exercise in October 2015, his subsequent appointment in 2017 as the African Standby Force Chief of Staff, and the various senior positions that he held in the Zimbabwe Defence Force. The death of Major General Mugoba certainly leaves a huge void in the Zimbabwe Defence Force and the African Standby Force.
On behalf of the SADC Secretariat, and indeed my own behalf, I wish to convey our deepest condolences to the bereaved family, Government and people of the Republic of Zimbabwe, and the African Union, on this tragic loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
