The Southern African Development Community (SADC) Executive Secretary, His Excellency Mr. Elias M. Magosi, received the High Commissioner of the Republic of Kenya to Botswana, Her Excellency Ambassador Ms. Sabdiyo Dido Bashuna, at the SADC Secretariat on 16th September 2026 for discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation between Kenya and SADC in areas of mutual interest.
His Excellency Magosi welcomed the engagement and underscored the value of strengthening partnerships that support regional integration and sustainable development. He noted the importance of exploring areas of common interest that could complement SADC’s priorities under the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP) 2020-2030, particularly in economic development, market integration, peace and security, agriculture and youth empowerment.
Ambassador Bashuna outlined areas through which Kenya could work with SADC to advance shared priorities, including knowledge and experience sharing, cooperation in agriculture and food production, development of the beef industry, entrepreneurship, youth-focused initiatives and enhanced market linkages. She also highlighted opportunities to connect young people with agriculture and enterprise development as a means of promoting employment, innovation and participation in economic activities.
The discussions further explored the potential for stronger collaboration in agriculture and food systems, sustainable management of natural resources and economic integration. Both parties acknowledged the potential to facilitate the greater movement of goods, services, investment and expertise across the region and African continent.
The engagement reaffirmed the importance of strategic partnerships in addressing shared development priorities and provided a platform for Kenya and SADC to explore practical areas of collaboration that could contribute to regional integration, food security, economic development and meaningful opportunities for young people
